192.168.29.1 is the default gateway (also known as the default IP address) for a number of routers and modems. Just like 192.168.1.1, http://192.168.29.1 too is an accessible URL that will redirect network users to the admin panel. You can make changes to the wired connections as well as the wireless internet connections using the same address. There is a multitude of settings that can be configured and changed and a lot more that can be done from over here.
Here are some of the additional settings that can be done from over here:
- Managing wireless network passwords.
- Changing WiFi names/SSIDs.
- Updating the modem/router firmware.
- Installing additional QoS packet schedulers.
- Updating security firmware.
- Adding and removing plugins.
- Blocking websites and devices from the network.
- Factory resetting the router/modem.
- Rebooting the router/modem.
How to login to 192.168.29.1?
In order to do any change in the settings or tweak something, you will have to first access 192.168.29.1. However, just like any login page, this one too is password-protected. So, here is how you can log in to the router’s default IP page:
-
- Connect your computer or laptop to the desired network (can be done wirelessly or using a wired connection).
- Go to the address bar and type 192.168.29.1 and press the Enter key. Alternatively, you can also click on http://192.168.29.1.
- Once you have landed on the admin control panel, it will ask you to log in using some credentials.
- These credentials consist of a username and a password. Please note that every router has a different set of login credentials. However, the most common combination is:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin
- In case you are not sure about your router’s/modem login credentials, you can check them at the backside of your router.
- Enter the correct details > Press Enter and you will be logged into the admin panel with ease.
- Once you have been logged in, you will be able to manage every setting and task related to your router from over there.
Important Notes:
Please make sure that you are aware of these things – that your default IP is 192.168.29.1 and that your system is connected to the same network. In case the default IP is different, you will get an HTTP 500/502 non-responding error or a 404 – Not Found error. Different routers have different default gateways. The general login procedure is the same for all. So, in case you are not sure about your IP address, here is what else you can do (device should be connected to the network):
- On your Windows machine, go to Start > Run.
- Type cmd and hit Enter.
- Once the Command Prompt opens up type ipconfig and hit Enter.
- You will get a list of all the connected (active) networks to your system. Just look for your desired network and not the default gateway address.
- Done.
How to change the WiFi SSID & Password?
In order to change the SSID and password, you will first have to log in to the device’s admin panel. Once you are inside the admin panel, here is what you will have to do:
- You need to go to Wireless Settings.
- From there, you will have to navigate to WLAN 2.4 or WLAN 5 (depending on the frequency of your wireless connection).
- Make sure that you have ‘enable connection’ checked before you proceed.
- Under the SSID, you can provide the WiFi name of your choice.
- Under the security, make sure that you have the best security option selected (WPA-2/PSK). Set a strong password.
- After that, you have to click on Apply Settings.
New settings require the router to reboot. It generally takes around 45 seconds for the router to reboot. You’re good to go once it has rebooted successfully.
How to factory reset the router?
In order to factory reset, you need a sharp pin. Turn your router around while it is turned on and push the pin inside the reset hole. Wait for a few seconds until the router restarts. Once it turns back on, all of the factory settings will be applied. Done.
