10.0.0.1 is the default gateway or IP address used by brands like Comcast, Xfinity and Cisco. This is where you will be able to configure (or reconfigure) your router or modem’s settings. In case you are not sure about your default gateway, you can look it up using ipconfig (Windows) or sbin/ipconfig (Linux/MacOS).
10.0.0.1 can be used to access the modem or the router’s admin console panel. Basically, you can manage your router from this admin page. Things related to setting up SSID, enabling/disabling 2.4/5 Ghz WiFi, switching to repeater mode and much more can be set up over here. Here are some of the primary things that can do when you have successfully accessed 10.0.0.1:
- Setup & change the admin login panel password.
- Configure your LAN & WAN.
- Configure your WLAN (wireless internet or WiFi).
- Add or remove WiFi password.
- Change your WiFi’s SSID.
How to Login to 10.0.0.1?
Here are a few prerequisites that you need to be aware of before proceeding with logging into 10.0.0.1. Firstly, your interacting device should be connected to the modem/router (either wired or wirelessly). Here are the steps that will be required after that:
- Open a web browser (Edge, Chrome, Safari or Firefox).
- Go to the address bar and type 10.0.0.1 or type (you can also press on the hyperlink) http://10.0.0.1.
- You will be greeted by a login page.
- Enter the username and password (for the router/modem).
- Since you are probably logging into it for the very first time, you will have to use the default username/password combination.
- Hit enter and you will be logged in successfully.
Kindly note that in case the default combination doesn’t work, you can always call up your ISP and ask them for the credentials. Alternatively, you can also look up for the credentials at the back of your router/modem.

Common issues with 10.0.0.1
In case, for some reason, you are unable to access 10.0.0.1 and/or you are getting a 500 error message, you can always try some alternatives.
Windows users: Open command prompt and type ipconfig. It will list the networks that your system is connected to. Look for your ISP and find the Default Gateway IP address over there.
MacOS/Linux users: Open the terminal window and type /sbin/ipconfig. It will list all of the available IP addresses. Simply copy your ISPs IP address and use it.
You can also try to use 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in case 10.0.0.1 does not work for you. In case of persistent logging failure, you can always restart/reboot your modem/router. Issues related to less power and some other DNS routing get fixed by that. Other issues include:
Incorrect IP Address: Always be sure that you used the full numerical digits that are only separated by a period. IP addresses do not allow alphanumeric characters as well as special characters. So, 10.o.o.1 or the likes of it won’t work.
Unresponsive Gateway Host Error: It occurs mainly due to problems in receiving connections from the host. A simple reboot mostly suffices in such cases.
Incorrect Client Address Issue: Routers can get assigned certain dynamic IPs at times that become obsolete later on. In such cases, you are required to factory reset the router. Issues related to client addresses get fixed once the router has been reset to its original state.
How to reset the router?
You can always opt to reset the router if you are unable to access 10.0.0.1. Here are the steps:
- There is a reset button at the back of the router.
- Using a sharp pin or a needle, poke the button and hold it for 10 seconds.
- Your router will be successfully reset once it reboots.
