Steps to Hard Reset a Router
- On the back of every router is an empty hole with the word RESET
- Take a small pin and insert it into this hole and remember to keep your router on while doing this.
- Now hold the pin into the hole for 15 to 20 seconds.
- While doing this you will notice the router blink or flash or restarting directly.
- This will restart it and all the settings will be changed to the factory default ones.
- Some of the Old routers are required to be switched off before restarting it.

Soft Reset
Soft Reset means resetting it through the web admin. Steps to Soft reset are:
- Check your IP address and type it in your browser.
- Now in your web interface, there are several headings given.
- Check the headings like Administration, Management, System, Maintenance or the ones that are like these. Every router has a different word for it.
- Now under any of these words, you will find Restore Factory Settings or Restore Defaults button.
- Click on the button and this will restart your router.
- By performing Soft Reset you will have a backup of your configuration files that you can later restore, unlike the Hard Reset.
- If you were having issues previously don’t configure the same settings from the backup.
- It is always advised that after restarting always create a backup of the files so that you can use them whenever it’s required.”
