Linksys Router Login has an interface that lets its users easily set up, configure and modify the network. The overall interface is very user-friendly, with an overall feel-good GUI. There are plenty of ways in which one can access this page. The only two prerequisites to access this setup page are –
- You need to have a computer, laptop, smartphone, or tablet.
- You need to have the aforementioned gizmo connected to the Linksys-hosted network connection.
Anyway, you can access this page by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your web browser. You can even click on http://192.168.1.1 directly. It has everything that is necessary for the router (and the network) to work properly.
Here is a list of some of the few things that this admin page allows its users –
- With this, management and setting up of home and office networks becomes very easy. You do not need to download or install any third-party software.
- It is your one-stop for all the wired and wireless network troubleshooting. The admin page does everything from managing your SSID to setting up strong WiFi Passwords.
- This page is accessible via both wired and wireless network connections. Just ensure you have the target device connected to the Linksys network.
- The page will open regardless of whether there is a working internet connection.
- If you wish to upgrade to the latest router firmware version, the Linksys Router admin page lets you do that. Just download the firmware from the official website: https://www.linksys.com and install it via the router admin page.
How to Access the Linksys Router Login Page
If you are about to use the router for the first time, you will definitely have to set it up first. To set up the router, opening its admin login page is mandatory. Although Linksys’ IP address is given on the backside of the router, to be sure, here is what you can do –
- Connect your system to the network (does not matter if the internet is not working).
- Go to Start > Type Command Prompt > Hit Enter on your system.
- Type ipconfig > Press the Enter key.
- You will get a list of every internet connection on your system. The router’s IP address will be mentioned under the Default Gateway section.
- Copy the IP address.
Now, since you already have the IP address copied, this is how you can log in to the router’s settings page –
-
- Open Chrome/Safari > Go to the Address Bar > Paste the IP address or type myrouter.local > Press Enter.
- You should get a login page. Enter these credentials and press Enter-
- Username: admin
- Password: 1234
You will then be logged in to the portal.
Done.
How to change the Linksys WiFi Password (and SSID)?
To secure your wireless network, it is highly recommended that you add a strong password to your WiFi. Linksys routers, just like every other router, come with an open WiFi connection out of the box. Having an open connection is not at all okay as it is highly risky. Anybody (within the proximity) can access an open network, making it susceptible to false play. So here is what you need to do to protect your network –
- Login to the Linksys router admin page.
- Go to Network > WLAN Settings > Select your desired wireless connection type i.e. 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.
- Make sure that the wireless is enabled.
- Select the 802.11b/g/n Mixed wireless mode.
- Go to the SSID index and select any channel that you want.
- Change the SSID (WiFi channel name).
- Select the security mode: WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK.
- Select the encryption type: AES.
- Click on Apply.
- Done.
The router will restart at first. It may take up to a minute for the router to reboot. The password and SSID will be applied as soon as it reboots.
How to change the Linksys admin password?
Leaving the default admin password combination is also very risky. You should change it as soon as you access the portal for the first time. Here is what you need to do –
- Open the Linksys Router Login.
- Go to Maintenance > Account Management > Select the Admin Account.
- Enter the new password and confirm it > Click on Apply.
- Done.
